HURRICANE RIDGE KENNEL CLUB: Local dog owners win prizes at national championships


PORT ANGELES – Two members of the Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club and their dogs won prestigious awards at the American Kennel Club National Championships held in Orlando, Florida last month.

HRKC member Susan Parr from Port Angeles and her Bernese Mountain Dog MBISS GCHS Lavender Hills Sin City, RN, aka “Vegas” took home the Best of Breed Award against 48 of the country’s top Bernese Mountain Dogs. Vegas went on to represent the breed in the working group competition on Sunday.

Vegas is 4 and a half years old and was raised by Parr. It is co-owned by Cindy Crawford-Garath, who also looks after Vegas at dog shows. Vegas finished as the # 1 Bernese Mountain female dog in the US in one ranking system and # 2 in another. She also won the Best in Show Reserve in November at Woofstock in Vallejo, Calif., The second largest dog show in the United States.

HRKC member Faerin Tait, 14, of Port Angeles, competed in the Owner-Led National Series and Junior Handling Final, along with her German pinscher, rookie “CH Immer Treu Protect and Serve TKI” .

Tait and Rookie competed in the Task Force Specialty and AKC Owner Managed National Championship Series and won the Owner Managed Best of Breed award in both shows. The duo then advanced to the junior handling finals and finished third.
