American Kennel Club appoints Heather McManus General Counsel

NEW YORK, 22 October 2021 / PRNewswire / – The American Kennel Club (AKC®), the world’s largest purebred registry and the foremost advocate of all dogs, named Heather mcmanus as Advocate General. McManus was appointed Vice President in 2017 and served as Deputy General Counsel.

In this new role, McManus will be the AKC’s chief counsel. She will report to Dennis B. Sprung, AKC President and CEO.

Heather McManus joined the AKC in January 1993. In addition to being the AKC’s chief counsel, she manages the legal department functions and is responsible for insurance programs for the AKC and its affiliates. Heather is a member of the MAC Casualty Board of Directors. She has successfully handled litigation filed for the AKC and its affiliates and represents the AKC at trial court hearings.

Prior to joining the AKC, McManus was Assistant District Attorney for Will County, Illinois State Attorney’s Office, serving as both misdemeanor and head of the misdemeanor division. McManus received his law degree from the Faculty of Law of the University of Notre Dame and his BA from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
